What I do when I'm feeling sick
I felt pretty run down this last Saturday morning, but I had to see clients and had an afternoon meeting to get through before I could fully relax. By the time I was in the meeting I had significant drainage down the back of my throat and knew it was time to get serious. When I got home my whole body was achy and my throat was now sore to where it hurt to speak or swallow. I wasn’t worried though. These symptoms were just a wake up call for me. I initiated my “I can’t afford to be sick” protocol. A quick side note, this protocol works well for me. I’m sharing this for entertainment purposes, not as recommended treatment for you. That being said, these remedies are fairly safe to try, but you should consult a doctor before using any powerful herbs or high doses of vitamins.
First thing I did was cancel my evening plans and put on sweats. Normally, I would have taken a long hot shower or bath to raise my body temp and sweat a little, but I think I was too tired for that this time. Next I took 1000mg of vitamin C, 200mg of Andrographis and a couple drops of pure oregano essential oil. I then drank a big cup of hot water with lemon juice and an essential oil blend of clove, cinnamon, rosemary, lemon and eucalyptus. After that I had a simple dinner (bone broth would have been ideal but I didn’t have any made) and 50,000 I.U.s of vitamin D3. That’s 10 times the recommended daily amount if you’re wondering, but high amounts of D3 have been shown to knock out a virus like the flu. I normally wouldn’t take that much in the evening because it can energize you, but I felt so tired that I wasn’t worried about it this time. I did one more round of Vit C, andrographis and that hot lemon water essential oil blend, did a salt water gargle, took 600mg of magnesium and 5mg of melatonin to help me sleep and was in bed at 9. I woke up around 7 the next morning and felt like a champ. My throat was still a little sore when I woke up, but was fine by midday.
That protocol, give or take a few details, has kept me from succumbing to an illness just about every time I’ve felt one coming on.
