How to become a spiritual person
How do I become a spiritual person? It’s unlikely to happen by attending a weekend conference, traveling abroad, doing yoga 7 days a week, and sadly, even attending church. When Dr. David Hawkins (someone I believe to be a highly spiritual person) was asked this question, he said don’t bother. He recommends first trying to be a decent person. Practice common decency. Be helpful, genuine, easy going, safe to be with, grateful, patient. And quick to forgive. The truth of who you are will begin to emerge.
Hawkins also says that the quickest way to enlightenment is to realize that everything is perfect and beautiful as it is. Personally, it doesn’t appear to be that way, but spiritual people see essence over appearance. What you’re witnessing is an emergence of potentiality. Potentially becomes actuality when conditions are favorable (nonlinear dynamics). A gardener doesn’t make flowers grow, they make favorable conditions for it to grow. If a flower doesn’t grow or fully bloom it appears to be imperfect, but in essence it expresses itself perfectly if the conditions weren’t there for its fullest potential to emerge. When potentiality is actualized, essence emerges. You can’t force the flower to grow (causality). We’re conditioned to see things in a linear domain, but in actuality, there’s no causality, only consequences.
